Rather than setting up a calibrated spray rack system and performing an ASTM E1105 test, we chose the AAMA 501 test. Mostly because the AAMA 501.2 storefront window test was designed for this application.

So after we set up, our first order of business was to isolate the wall from the window. We do this with plastic. As a result, we test only the glass and not the wall/window connection. Even though this takes considerably more time to prepare, it’s essential.
Once the water was applied, it didn’t take long for water intrusion to manifest. Within just a few minutes of testing, water entered into the building from the location tested. Furthermore, the water patterns were identical to the stains and interior damage created by older water intrusion.
