What is ASTM E1105 testing?
The ASTM E1105 test method simulates a highly controlled wind-driven rain event and was drafted by ASTM International, and its official name is the Standard Test Method for Field Determination of Water Penetration of Installed Exterior Windows, Skylights, Doors, and Curtain Walls by Uniform or Cyclic Static Air Pressure. What that means in a non-technical way is that this test method can be used to test windows and doors (including adjacent perimeter seals and wall systems).
It is used in either one of two ways: (1) for quality control purposes to test the water penetration resistance of newly installed fenestration products at a home or commercial job site, or (2) as part of a forensic water leak test and investigation in an attempt to recreate known water leaks within a home or building.
