Leak Testing Shower PansThere are a number of ways we can test out a shower pan to locate leaks within the receptor or pan.
- Spray test
- Flood test ( Interior drain plug) 24-72 hours
- Modified flood test (exterior plug) 1+ Hours
Shower Pan Test TypesFor the majority of our shower pan or “receptor” tests, it starts with a basic flood test with the use of plug. Likewise, these tests are the same tests which the city having jurisdiction will perform. This is done prior to signing off on your shower installation (when it was newly constructed). Plug flood tests start with a balloon plug which is inserted into the drain. The idea is to test not only the shower pan liner / water proofing but also the drain and drain weep holes.
Our modified version of this test employs the use of a plug with a hole in the center. This plug allows for water to sit 1-3″ in depth, while draining. Although this test fails to properly test the drain / drain weep holes and liner like the city test. It will however produce immediate results in shower receptors which are known to leak. When necessary, this helps home owners to confirm leaking shower pans in Los Angeles.
Spray tests are exactly as they sound. This test is reserved for testing of the enclosure glass connection to the floor and wall.
